Drawing is one of the most popular ways to enhance mindfulness, calm oneself down and live in the moment. Not only is drawing very therapeutic, it can also be fun. Mindfulness means bringing your mind to the present moment and getting immersed in the act of drawing without doing anything else at the same time.
The mindful drawing exercises will help you to:
- Improve your attention and ability to focus;
- Cultivate strong mindfulness;
- Calm your mind and reduce anxiety;
- Express yourself and unlock your creativity;
- Create beautiful doodles and patterns even if you have zero drawing skills.
Starting-out Drawing
Mindful drawing is easy. Just sit down and give it a go. Don’t worry about the quality–it’s the process that counts. You can take two different approaches. The first is unguided mindful drawing, and the second is guided.
Unguided
- Let your mind wander freely
- Put on some relaxing sounds or music
- Get a pen and paper, or whatever you have on hand
- Let your creative energy flow and draw whatever comes to mind without judging yourself.
Guided
- Use guided audio or video recordings
- Take a drawing class > check out Batik Class at Om Ham Retreat & Resort
- Follow a book on mindful drawing
